Jimmies softball divides doubleheader against Morningside

On Saturday, April 27, the University of Jamestown softball team faced off against Morningside University at the Mustangs’ Jensen Softball Complex. The Jimmies started strong in the first game, with Abby Blair scoring the first run by singling home Trinity Gregg in the first inning. They added another run to take a 2-0 lead before Morningside scored in the third to make it 2-1. The Jimmies secured their victory with a run-scoring single by Gracie Fisher in the fifth, ending the game with a score of 3-1.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Jimmies took an early lead, scoring three runs on five hits in the second inning. However, Morningside came back with a vengeance, scoring three runs of their own in the third and tying the game at 3-3. Both teams continued to score in the fourth and fifth innings, with Morningside ultimately securing a hard-fought 10-6 victory over Jamestown.

Gentry Turin of Jamestown had an impressive performance during this matchup, contributing two RBIs for his team. Kennedee Jones of Morningside also had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 and hitting a two-run homer that helped secure her team’s win. Camryn Schwab also scored for Jamestown but it was not enough to overcome Morningside’s lead.

The Jimmies will now wait anxiously for GPAC Conference Tournament which starts on Wednesday May 1st Max O’Neill from The Jamestown Sun will be covering these games as he is a sports reporter and native New Yorker
