Sports performance/science department at Jets undergoes multiple changes

In the upcoming 2024 season, the Jets have decided to retain head coach Robert Saleh and General Manager Joe Douglas. While they have kept their top brass in place, the team has made some changes to their sports performance and sports science staff. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, director of high performance Brad DeWeese is no longer with the organization. Additionally, assistant director of high performance Robert Sausaman and director of sports science Matt Sams, who were hired under Saleh in 2021, are also no longer part of the team.

In their place, Alexander Carnall has been appointed as the sports science coordinator. However, there have been no new additions on the performance side of things. Cimini reports that the departures were not based on poor performance but rather due to concerns over significant injuries along the offensive line in recent seasons. The team hopes that by acquiring veteran tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses in this offseason, they will improve the line’s overall health and performance for a successful 2024 season.
