On May 8, four workers from the Cho Lon Electricity Company sustained severe burns while working on repairing electricity at an underground cable line in District 8. The workers suffered burns as a result of an electrical short circuit, fire, and explosion.
The most severely injured patient was a 28-year-old male with 2nd and 3rd degree burns covering 80% of his body. The patient had burns on his head, chest, abdomen, limbs, and eyes. Emergency doctors provided pain relief, intravenous fluids, tetanus prevention, blood tests, and CT scans for the patient.
The other three patients included a 46-year-old man with burns on his head and face, a 37-year-old man with burns on his ear and hands, and a 37-year-old with burns on his hand and ankle. They were treated for pain relief and tetanus prevention before being discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Ngo Duc Hiep, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Cho Ray Hospital, reported that the prognosis for the most severely injured patient was still difficult due to the extent of his burns. The patient’s treatment will involve extensive reconstructive surgery to repair the damaged skin and tissue.
