On Saturday, more than 1,000 people gathered in the St. Georg district of Hamburg for a rally organized by Islamists. The demonstrators were protesting against what they perceived as an Islamophobic policy and media campaign in Germany.
Posters with slogans such as “Germany = dictatorship of values” and “Caliphate is the solution” were seen at the peaceful rally, which was secured by a large police presence. The police estimated that 1,100 people participated in the event.
During the rally, organizers urged demonstrators to shout “Allahu Akbar” (“God is great”). Speakers accused politicians and the media of spreading “cheap lies” and engaging in “cowardly reporting” that aimed to portray all Muslims in Germany as Islamists, particularly in light of the Gaza war.
The Hamburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution reported that the rally was organized by the Muslim Interaktiv group, which is considered extremist. This group had previously organized a demonstration in St. Georg in October despite a ban and mobilized 3,500 people for a rally against the burning of the Koran in Sweden earlier this year.
